Madison Police Lt. resigns after being caught on camera engaging in sexual activity in a service car in Farm and Fleet parking lot

MADISON – A 15-year veteran of the Madison Police Department resigned on Wednesday after being filmed engaging in sexual activity in a service vehicle in September.

The department announced the resignation of Lt. Reginald Patterson after the conclusion of an investigation into the incident, which was caught on video by a passerby.

The department discovered during an investigation that Patterson had violated several policies and felt that a separation of the service was necessary.

“Lt. Patterson’s recent actions are inconsistent with the mission of the Madison Police Department,” the department said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

The transgression was filmed by a man in the parking lot of a Madison Farm and Fleet store, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The man decided to film after seeing legs appear in the backseat of the police car, as well as two bodies.

Patterson was placed on administrative leave the day of the incident, after a video of the incident was posted on social media.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office has investigated the incident and no criminal charges have been returned, the statement said.
